Default Back to the old school

Got out again today. I found 8 Wheat pennies, a recent pocket drop of 4 quarters, 2 dimes and 3 pennies. No silver today, but I'm not complaining. I've made a new metal detecting friend in the ER this week. He was with his wife. She used to detect with him, but her health won't let her to get out now. He has a new Garrett 2500 he really wants to try out and was excited to find another person to go with. I'm ready to see what that deep seeking detector can find. Will keep you posted.

HH

Was glad to see someone mention old schools. I started detecting at the site of an old high school, it was built in the late 1800's or very early 1900's. It is gone now except for the foundation which I believe contained a basement that has been filled in. I spent about an hour there today, dug about 30 signals and found crush cans, pull tabs, and lot of cement with rebar. I was a bit frustrated to be honest. I would be very interested in any tips etc. I was thinking of locating an area and just working a small section over and over and hopefully clearing away the garbage is this a good plan or am I just . Any suggestions are welcome, I am very new to this and just trying to learn as I go. I should also say that although it was a bit frustrating I did enjoy myself. I just know that one time I'm going to dig down and then .

Hey swiftey, I'm no expert by any stretch, but what I found is a lot of trash right around the site where the school sat. Where I found most of my coins was down what used to be the old sidewalk leading from the street to the school, and where the playground was. The sidewalk is now a long depression in the ground. Talk to some of the people who might have gone to school there along time ago, and they can tell you where they played, how they got to the school, and where the older kids stood around and hung out. Those are good places to look. Break it down into small areas and search oneway then the other. Sweep slow and low. The coins are there, I promise. Good luck!
