Default I found a knife...

by a tree during lunch. I accidentally broke it because I thought it was a root. I believe it was used in some sort of illegal activity.

It's my first non-coin / trash stuff that I have found. I'm quite proud of myself...except for the fact that I broke it. Uhm. Perhaps my digging skills need to be refined a bit.

Kind of looks like one of those prison make shift weapons like a shive (sp?).

It makes the mind go wild thinking about the possibilities of what it was and how it ended up there. For example, I suspect anyone who has found a pistol in the water has wondered what foul play was associated with it.

That knife has been there for a good long time.....

Good find, Pris!

Where did you find it?
I found it right up against a big tree in a city park. I was looking for coins or jewelery, thinking that if someone was sitting under the tree and leaning against it, that stuff in their back pockets may have fallen out. It was maybe half an inch from the tree and about 4 to 5 inches down. There was a big rock (about 8"x8" big) laying on top of this area and I moved it so I could detect freely. After I moved the rock, I got a mixture of tones around the range of pull tab. I know from reading from TQ that this could be gold, possibly. After I found the knife, it crossed my mind that someone hid it there and may have put that rock over where they had hidden it. I'm probably just imagining the whole thing, but it made for a very interesting lunch hour, I can tell you that!!!
