Default My First Old Coin Pocket Spill Today!

Hit a new site today ... a rural lot that used to have an early 1900s house on it. My hunting buddy (L J) and I got there a little late but managed to cover about 1/2 of the yard. It was a great day for me ... I had several firsts. My first older coin pocket spill: 6 wheats (194?, 1944, 1951, 1951, 1953, 19??) and 3 nickles (1940, 1941, 1942 War) all in the same hole. The 1942 war nickle was a first find also. Thirdly, I found my first Standing Liberty Quarter (unfortunately it had been hit by a mower blade and was in terrible condition with no readable date). I also dug a 1947 nickle, 1941 Mercury dime, a couple of clad dimes, and one memorial cent. L J found a clad dime, 2 memorial cents, and a beautiful token that was about the size of a 1/2 dollar and had Heads I win and tails you lose on it. We will be hitting this place again soon!

Congratulations
on your first old pocket spill.
It's a shame the quarter was hit with a mower. Good luck when you hit the site again. It sure looks like a awesome site.

NC, sounds like I need to get up to Columbia to help you clean out some of those spots. Excellent finds with that pocket spill and the SLQ. I used to go up to Columbia to play football in Jr. High and High School. Also been up that way just a few years ago doing some narcotics work trying to get the dealers in the lawn chairs off the street. Never did get enough work done up there to make a difference. Happy Hunting.

That quarter looks like it went through WWII!!! Oh wait. It did.

Funny story: my buddies who don't MD are fascinated with the fact that I've taken it up. I taught them some terminology, including the phrase 'pocket spill'.

So the other day we're at the movies, and the way most people sit in those seats (with legs up) everyone's dropping coins every 30 seconds. As one particularly loud batch of at least half a dozen coins clattered to the cement floor, my buddy leans over to me and very calmly goes: "Pocket spill."

I dunno, it was funny at the time.

Not bad for 1/2 a yard. Good luck with the other half! HH!

Hey chief ... I was probably playing football at CHS a little before your time (1969-72) ... you must have done some good on US64 ( I don't notice the lawn chairs anymore but I'm sure they've just got a different strategy now) ... If you get down this way sometime stop in and see me at Flemz Deli on North Road Street (we might have to take a quick hunting trip) ... I haven't seen any posts from you lately on those Wake County finds ... It hasn't been that cold or wet in Raleigh has it?

NC,

Yeah that was a little before my time. I was up there playing HS in 86-89.
No hunting for me in Wake. I am down in Craven but time has been short for hunting. Work at work, work at home, and my girls playing ball all limit my time. With this pretty weather I am gonna have to sneak in some time somewhere. HH
