Don't know John, but it is pretty neat.

Nice find John ... It looks like a pre 1935 good luck token ... you may be able to do a search for good luck coins or tokens and learn more about it.

Thumbs up Good Luck token

The swastika was a common GOOD LUCK symbol up until WW II when the image was ruined for all time.

I noticed a Patent date or number on the Rev photo...that could lead to something esp. if it is a pat. No.

The rest of the theme looks like it may be Creole (New Orleans) which may help in tracking it down.

Sorry I don't have anything more specific.

HH & nice find,

Joe

I found out this much about the token. High John the conqueror is a herbel root used in Hoodoo magic by the Africa Americans, and is a lucky token. I thank is pre. 1930. If you see anything about it let me know . Thanks

Default Might help...

I couldn't read the patent number very (looks like it starts 85), but this link from the U.S. Patent Office will allow you to date it exactly (and is handy for any relic hunter):

Issue Years and Patent Numbers

Wikipedia.org has decent articles on John the Conqueror and hoodoo.

An interesting coin, definitely marketed to black people, very probably in Louisiana, though belief in hoodoo and other folk magic spread to northern cities in the 20th century.
