Default In my yard

Got out in my front yard yesterday for the first time. Found a clad nickel and 2 clad pennies, what looked like a piece of lead from a spent bullet about 6 inches down, and a newer pull tab. Also, found a rather large rectangular piece of lead in the driveway. That's it! Had a signal that sounded like money but never found it. Will go back today and try again.

Default Off and running

Good start, just keep learning that detector. I hope Boobie is right and you can find that gold piece. Good luck.

Wink Coin in hiding..

Sometimes those coins will hide in the loose dirt, you can pin them down by scooping up a hand full of dirt and waving it under your coil, if it doesn't beep set it aside and try another. When you get a handfull that beeps, divide it between your hands and check each one and keep doing this with the one that beeps till you find the target.

Not as handy as a pinpointer, but effective.
Oh, and don't forget to check the jewelry into your pocket before detecting.

Default Thanks

Joe, I have been doing that. Works great most of the time! I didn't get back out in the yard last night but I did stop by an old farm nearby. It was getting too dark but I did find an old, rusted file about 4 inches down. I plan to go back there asap. Thank God we are finally getting some rain. The ground was just crumbling in my hands yesterday. My best friend lives in a house that was built in 1919 and she owns the lot beside it. We're planning to hunt her yard and lot this weekend!!! I'm excited.

Default Good Luck!

I'm originally from Paducah, KY and will be going back in May for my Nephew's HS graduation. I'm taking my MD with me so we can do some huntin' on my home terf. There are so many places back home I'm interested in finding stuff. I am trying to talk my sister into buying a detector so I can live vicariously through her. I don't know the history around where I live now, but I haven't found much more than just clad coins and nails.

There are a lot of places around Kentucky I'd love to get the opportunity to hunt. Clarksville is a very historical city, but it's growing so fast everything will be covered with pavement within the next ten years!! There was an old school very close to my house....up until about a year ago. Now it's condominiums. Breaks my heart to think that I got my detector to late to hit that one. Good luck in Paducah!
