Johnny, check out this link:

Anastasio Somoza Debayle (1925 - 1980) - Find A Grave Memorial

Where did you find it? Florida?

If it was his it certainly has historical significance. I don't have a clue where you would go to find out however.

The thing is, Somoza graduated in 1946 from West Point Military Academy. The discrepancy of the dates could be significant or it could be that he attended the LaSalle Military Academy before going on to West Point. The 4 year difference would then make sense.

Need to dig a little deeper to be sure.

I can confirm that he graduated from LaSalle Military Academy.

La Salle Military Academy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There is a decent biography here:

Anastasio Somoza Debayle: Definition and Much More from Answers.com

It appears you may have a genuine article there.

Maybe contacting LaSalle (the school is closed but the campus is owned by St. John's University. They may know where the records are.) will give you confirmation that he purchased a ring.

Perhaps the government of Nicaragua would be interested, possibly not. Considering his history there, he may or may not be revered today as a hero.

Like any other class ring, there are various options, including its return to family members, selling it or melting it.

In any case, congratulations, a unique, historical find!
