Default Finds today and need Pappy's help!!

Went MDing today at an old school site. Found 4 wheat pennies, all from the 40's and a few clad coins.
A man drove by and stopped and asked if I was looking for coins or a water leak. When he found out coins he said I have something you may be interested in, I'll be right back. He drove away and I kept Mding wondering if he knew me or something. He came back and pulled out a Union Planters bank bag. (Ok, he's got my attention now!!) He opened a news paper on the hood of his car and dumped out no less than 50 coins and paper money. I've dropped my metal detector right about this time. I started thinking fast and realized I only have a $20 dollar bill in my wallet. He said he has been looking for someone to buy some of his coin collection. He didn't say why. I didn't ask. He said he had some of it appraised back in the 60's, but doesn't know what it's worht now. I saw 1 Morgan dollar, 1 standing Liberty quarter, about 3 Mercs, 3 or 4 IH's, some kennedy's, an Ike, Alot of Wheaties, some foreign coins, and so on. What first caught my Eye was a very old $5 note of some sort, and 2 very old looking, ancient coins, and the 1921 morgan. I looked as sheepish as I could and told him I only have $20 on me. But I would be glad to go to an ATM right quick. He said he was on his way to visit a friend and said pick out what you like and we'll see if we can do business. I scooped up the Morgan, the $5 Confederate 1863 note, and the 2 ancient looking coins, and aksed for his phone number to come back and get the rest. Of course he had to stand there and give me the once over before he said ok. After I gave hime the money, he started talking about himself, his life, his recent divorse, and how his grown kids don't come around. To be honest, he started freaking me out alittle. Anyway, we talked for a little while and he said he really needed to go, he gave me his phone number and said when I want the rest of it , just call and we could meet.

So heres the question for Pappy or anyone who knows. What do I have and what is it worth, if anything. Sorry for the long story, just had to tell it.
Thanks

Rob

Hey Rob, I have a magazine with the Coin with the Owl on it and here is what it says : The Owl is one of the first birds to be depicted on a coin, The coin that you have Is a Greek tetradrachm from 463 to 457 BC. This info comes from magazine(Coin Worlds - coin values) July 2006. Although there are some small differences in the coin in the Magazine and your coin, not sure what that means.

Rob, it appears that you may have made a good purchase. I'm not much up on my foreign coins but they do look Roman. I've included a web site you may want to bookmark and take a look at.
The confed. bill is not really in good shape and I would say it is worth about $8.00-$10.00 in the shape it's in...GREAT collectable though.

Thank you. If I can't find anything on the web, may take them to a coin shop.

Creekrat, I think your right. This guy does need a friend. I see him soon.

Thanks

Rob

Hey Rob,Nice coins ! I would have them authenticated somehow.I seem to remember that the tetradrachm (Indy is correct on that) is pretty rare and worth quite abit.

Hi,
The owl coin is Athens, Greece.
Attica, Athens, ancient coins index with thumbnails - WildWinds.com

Not a cheap coin even if in bad condition. Expect to pay 350.00 or quite a bit more.

Can you give the size and weight?
How much did you pay? $20 for all?

I'lll have to look more at the other coin.

Doug

Your other coin is a Crusader

http://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=30908

Bohemund VII. 1278-1287

Nice coin.

The Athens coin, the size and weight will tell more about what the coin might be worth.
