Today's hunt

1.54 clad, 5 wheats, silver charm, 10K gold ring, a pocket watch. And a good example of a nest that was over the watch, this kind of nest is over coins , too.

I really like that pocket watch. Those are the kinds of think I want to find. Just cool junk. Money is good too, don't get me wrong, but I really like that old interesting stuff. WTG I also notice those "nests" hanging around my coins. It's funny because I have picked up the nest thinkin' it was the actual coin. It will sometimes have an impression of the coin with a face and everything.

Never heard anyone mention that before...

what kinda critter uses a watch or coin to nest on?.... i take it these are underground?.... just curious because this is my first time of even hearing about it. is it a mole or some kinda bug? enlighten us folx who dont have such interesting things to find along with the treasure. thanx and happy hunting. PS if you ever find one of those nest with owner it please post a pic....

The nest looks to me like little roots that farm around object, don't know why this happens. I have see this on a lot of coin, too.

Yeah, I think it may just be that the coin or object compresses against the soil and/or roots to form an impression, or "nest". Trust me, if there were any critters crawlin' around I wouldn't be diggin'.

John, those are some pretty cool finds. I have some homework to do, to figure out how to find cool stuff like that.

I noticed the 'nests' on some of the bottle caps I find , especially the larger caps from the drinks like Sobee or the other tea bottles.
