I decided after work, as I had about an hour free before I had to do anything, I would check out this empty field, it has been empty for as long as I have lived here, and I remember asking one of the older guys I know, he is in his 80's, and he grew up here, and he said it was an empty field when he was a kid.
So I go check out this field with my metal detector, and as I expected, I turn up empty crushed cans, bottle caps and tabs, some nails and scraps of metal, and then I get this low deep hit, I dig down, nothing is there, I dig further, nothing is there, so I go back to my car and get a larger spade, and I end up digging down about 12 inches below the Mount Saint Helen's ash fall line, and there I find a really cool find, 13 metal balls. I had a feeling I knew what they were, but I took them over to a friends house. He is a retired Marine and loves old weapons, especially 19th century and earlier.
Yep, they were what I thought they were, musket balls!! Real genuine flint lock musket balls! Rifle and pistol sized balls!
