On Tuesday, 3/8, I hunted a couple of parks in Fairfield, IA.
One was downtown between the tracks and the courthouse.
Lots of commemorative plaques. . .
The park was established in 1913, but another said the area was used for infantry drills in 1861 when Lincoln called to arms for the Civil war.
The dinky little piece of ground was loaded with signals.
I spent 3 hours, cleaning up junk, coins, and random metal items.
Usually I like to go for quality - not quanity, but this place was addictive.
77 total coins, (2 wheats), a mystery disc, and a musket ball?
I have only found a few of these lead balls before. This one was at about 8" deep. It was the largest I have found. It is pretty much still perfectly round. It has the same colour as the many old bullets that I dug before (the ones with the rings at the base) Is there a way to tell if this is a musket ball? It is appx. 1/2 in diameter. I have found 3 other smaller sizes before at other locations.
With the 23 coins I found at another park in town, I had an even 100 coin day.
Mem cents (46 + 15)
Jef nickels (4 + 0)
Roos dimes (11 + 6)
Wash quarters (14 + 2)
1944, 1944d wheats
The odd wheel/disc is at the bottom in photo. Lead ball is in the middle.
The "Tin-women"? is at the top.
Thanks for having a look.
