Default My First Large Cent!

I went out to a park just south of the river on Saturday that I have only hunted once before. I was looking at an early map of Des Moines from 1875, and this was the only park shown. This time I hunted in a more secluded spot that overlooks the river, and boy did it pay off. I only found 6 coins total, but two were definitely keepers.

The first coin I dug was a 1900 IH cent 10 feet from where I parked. About a half hour later I turned over a 5" plug, and near the bottom of the plug was the edge of a very large coin. It turned out to be an 1847 Large Cent! This is the oldest coin I have ever found.

I also picked up what appears to be a gold chain. I can't tell if it's gold for sure, but it is heavy and it looks nice.

Default gold is good

...an easy check for gold or gold plate is the magnet test. hang the necklace and see if a strong magnet will make it move. if it does it is gold plate. gold plated or solid... Gold Is GOLD!!!!! and it sure is pretty
