I went to a local town square that I have not hunted yet. I don't know why, I drive by it everyday and just never thought about it. But in the news paper yesterday, an ad for the town Memorial Day Festival in the square turned on a light somewhere in the cobwebbed recesses of my brain. I went on what I call a Scout Hunt. Just wandered around for 45 minutes with no set pattern just to see if there was anything worht coming back for. Hit a lot of clad. Didn't dig it all because I thought I may be back tomorrow when I had more time. The third hole I dug was a 1964 Roosie.

At that point, I knew I would be back tomorrow. Dug some clad, then out comes a 1929 Merc! Within 4 inches of it a 1943 Merc! Dug some more clad, then out pops a 1954 Roosie. Passed over some surface coins, then found a 1957 Wheaty. All this in 45 minutes, literally just wandering around from here to there. It is obvious, no one else has hunted the square with all the coins I passed over, some which could be good finds. Everything including the silver was no more than 3 inches deep. The ground is very hard. Tomorrow, I will hunt it in a pattern and in sections. The little square is about 15 yards wide, by 150 yards long. I have a feeling I will be posting some good finds tomorrow, but let's not count the eggs before they hatch.
