hello donna. my best suggestion is set a sprinkler out in the yard the night b4 for about an hour. you can get a cheap one to atach to your water hose for under 10 bucks. just let it run a couple of hours the night b4 and be sure to hit it the next day b4 the sun can bake it again. and you may even use it as a way to ask permission to hunt neighbors yards. "i will water your lawn for you if you will let me detect it." it wont hurt to try

When the ground is too hard to dig or the lawn will be ruined I try to head for the beach to dig in the sand, on shore or off shore(depending on your detector) the sand is always easy and the rewards can be great.
good luck and HH. |

When it gets too dry to dig in lawns without damaging them excessively, I generally head for the riverbank and wooded areas nearby; always easier digging and making a neat plug is not as critical as on a park lawn.
And there are always the playgrounds (Yawn)
