Default A Classic Head copper

Hey, zoysters, I was doing a little bit of research this afternoon on my new laptop, when I suddenly heard the phone ring. It was Paco and he enthusiastically said, "Hey, dude, Steppe said it would be OK if we did some relic hunting on his farm property!" Keith and I took up the opportunity to spend the rest of the evening with our good detecting bud, Paco.

Well, we arrived at the site and, within the first five minutes of swinging my trusty Pro XL, I received a nice button with a shank. Paco glanced over at me and said, "Dude!" Then, Paco and I detected for another twenty minutes without anything to show for. I, being the semi-pro, decided to change my tactic by asking Paco, "Hey, bud, where did you find that Classic Head half cent a few months back?" Paco stated, "Right in that corner, man!" So, I ventured my way over to that area and was soon greeted with a nice mid-range tone that read at "Dime" on my analog meter. I instantly called for Paco and he swung his White's M6 over the hole and stated, "You might have another copper!"

Eventually, I dug down to the 6-inch depth, and noticed a medium-sized disc next to the hole. I instantly picked it up and rubbed the encrusted dirt off, and was introduced to a Classic Head half cent (the second one out of the same corner). After quickly taking off my headphones, I yelled,"Paco!" and performed a 360-degree spin in the air. Paco spastically ran over and congratulated me with many handshakes.

I later found three buttons, two musketballs, and a square nail. Paco found 6 buttons with shanks and two musketballs. Keith found a dateless Buffalo nickel at the other end of the field, which was the site of a one-room schoolhouse.

This field has yielded 25 buttons, two Classic Head half cents, and a Draped Bust cent.

Zoy, you have been super lethal with machine lately. I need to figure out how to dismantle it.

I thought my Buffalo nickel would beat you for the day. Well, there is always another detecting day.

I know the answer to this question is to study, but I was just wondering how you know what those coins are, right away. I can't see any markings... It is amazing to me that you guys know so much and are so experienced. I'm always impressed.

I will post some natural light pictures of the half cent later on tonight! You should be able to see the features a little better.

That's a bit better, but I still say you have a fantastic eye for coins. Thanks for the new photos. I can definitely make out more of the detail. Great find!!!!

Have you guys ever been published with your finds?

Pris, my brother, uncle, and other detecting partner have all been featured on the White's website; I still haven't been accepted yet.

I have been on a roll lately, even though I wasn't doing that well at the start of the year. While my uncle and brother were finding Draped Busts, Liberty Caps, Colonials, and late-1700s silver at my research spot, I was scraping around with only shotgun shells and garbage.

I just hope I can continue my luck streak!
