Default Rescue #1000....the Story......

I usually reserve afternoon's for a few hours of detecting, but today is a special day in a lot of ways. I myself was rescued today 11 years ago, by a wonderful woman, who on that day became my wife. Yes, if you look back at history, there was a Hurricane in Connecticut on July 13th, 1996. So off I went this morning, thoughts whirling through my mind, and a plan to find coin #1000 at exactly 10:08 AM. The significance is that is the date of my wife (Karen), birthday. So I wanted to find it on our anniversary, at the exact time coinciding with the day of her birth, so that coin will never be forgotten, seal it up, and attach it to her anniversary card. So the table is set, and I'm racing against the clock, setting up shop in a park I have never detected, but showed promise. I had coin 999 in my pocket by 9:50AM, so I staked out the next hole, and 2 back-ups so I would not be foiled, in case the 1st 2 yielded something other than a coin. It is now 10:06, and the plug is out of hole number's 1,2, and 3, and I begin to break apart the plug. My thoughts all morning were what are the odds of bringing in something at coin 1000 with a big splash? Since I have only found 5 silver coins, an old Colonial half-penny, and a single buffalo nickel, I realized, the odds were severely stacked against me. Odds are a funny thing, when we play the lottery, our chances are so limited, but we all dream, and hope. Then on the otherhand, when a doctor brings bad news, and the odds for survival are great, but there is that "lottery" type chance we or a loved one won't make it, we feel good about the volume of odds on our side. I guess it is what side you want to hang your hat on is how it works. I'm now poking through the isolated dirt upon my towel, what will it be, rings through my mind.....the clock strikes 10:08AM! My pace swiftens as I sift through the dirt, and there she lies, a 1975 penny! My excitement, and smile at that moment, were fitting to the oft used word...PRICELESS! I learned a longtime ago, it isn't the treasure you dig from the ground that matters, it's the treasure of life standing upon the ground that does! Once you demise yourself to negative emotion, the seed has been planted to germinate freely within you. Once you have learned to make every life experience positive, you have finally caught on to the biggest blessing life has to offer, and begin to enjoy every momemt. For most standing on a piece of land in an uneventful park in Connecticut, digging in dirt, and getting filthy dirty, is about as uneventful, and unfullfilling as it gets. For me on this day, it was not that the ground failed to reward me with a unique treasure, it was the fact that I was given a gift to be there, which I will always treasure. Your reward lies in your mind, and if you feed it giftful thoughts, each moment you experience along the adventure called life, will reward you forever!
