That was the 'Mattel Hot Wheels' of the day.... Prior to the early 50's.
After then, the cast toy cars got thinner, more cheaply made, and had much less detail. In the early 60's & beyond, almost all kid toys were made from plastic. That car is a mid-30's era Buick. The toy reproduction of it was probably made a year or two later. .
