There have been a lot of arrowheads found in my area but I don't even know how to start looking for them. Any tips?

I know that we used to find fossils all the time at Land Between the Lakes. I think we also found some nice points out there. Waters edge would be a nice place to begin your search.

Here is what chicken_little says about arrowhead hunting

quote=chicken_little;92738]The best time is right after the first rainfall after the field has been plowed. Just make sure it's not super muddy, because then it gets hard to walk. Look in fields that are next to creeks and rivers. Hunt the high ground and the ground right next to the creek/river, if the field extends that far. Don't walk aimlessly through the field. Walk a straight line, then move over a few feet and come back the same way. I Like to make my paths about 4-5 feet from eachother.

Look for flint as well as shapes. Not all artifacts are flint (axes, nutting stones, etc.).

Don't forget to enjoy the scenery. Usually you'll find 1 artifact per hour. More if its a good location, less if it's not so good or if it's been heavily hunted over the years). I've gone 3 hours without finding anything.

When you ask the farmer for permission to look for artifacts in his field, also ask him if he's ever found any and where at.

Oh, and keep an eye out for fossils too. You can find some nice fossils in fields, even here in the midwest. Plus if you go home without finding any artifacts, you can atleast be happy you found some fossils.

good luck, and have fun![/quote]

That pretty much summed it up.
