Default Recycling Yard find

Went to the recycling yard to turn in soda cans and some copper. Saw this kettle sitting near the fence I asked the man about it and he said it had been left there for about a week. If I wanted it take it. It is very heavy. Does anybody know a value?

Default Kettle

It should have a name or a number on it somewhere...More than likely on the bottom. I have several like it that have been in my family since the late 1800's. Your's appears to be cast iron and could be valuable. Let me know if you find any markings on it at all.

I see no writing or numbers anywhere it is cast iron and is quite rusty.
Even if not valuable it makes a nice addition to my Harth. Thanks

Great find even at a recycling center. Have you cleaned it yet?

Nice find, I believe they were made to fit a coal burning stove to add moisture to the air. We found one while cleaning out my parents house to sell and took it to a local auction and were told that.

Default ...Or a wood burning stove...

...we had one very similar (handed down by my grandparents...not sure how long they had it)...we would remove the round cover and set the kettle directly over the wood fire...my mom would sometimes add eucalyptus to the water, if we had head colds as sort of a home-made vaporizer...very nice find!
