Red face 5 Yeni Kurus

I just discovered a major oops! I just found it while going through the clad I found on Doheney Beach yesterday.
What I thought was a Roosevelt clad dime was actually a 5 Yeni Kurus from Turkiye Cumhuriyeti. That translates as 5 new Kurus from the Republic of Turkey.
The coin is the size and color of a dime, but the portrait is smaller and has a circle around it. The portrait is of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk - who looks nothing like Roosevelt.
I need to get my eyes examined! I would have sworn that I examined each coin to see if it was silver before putting it in the pouch.
So I have another addition to my found foreign coin collection.

The master foreign coin finder strikes again. The last time i was in Turkey (1997) 20.00 dollars would get you about 8 million turkish lira! That should give you an idea of how much that 5 piece is worth...not much! Great find anyway. The good thing, being Sailors, we could eat a steak dinner and drink beer all night off 8mil! Was some good times.

This is Yeni Lira (YTL) or New Lira. There are 100 Kurus to 1 lira and today's exchange rate was 1 Turkish Lira = 0.78 USD. So 5 Yeni Kurus equals almost 4 clad pennies. When the Lira went Yeni they removed a bunch of zeros from the currency. I have some old Turkish Lira in the 500 million Lira denomination. That wouldn't even buy a coke.
