Talking 2 Rand coin

I decided to try Laguna Beach (CA) to see how off tourist season would shape up. It turned out to be an interesting hunt at Main Beach, and I got skunked at what has been my main "treasure beach".
At Main Beach I found a South African 2 Rand coin in an area I hadn't really planned on searching. But I had a full bag of litter and trash and had to head for a trash receptical. I found the 2 Rand coin on the way back to my planned search area. The 2 Rand coin has gone up and down since it was first established. It is now worth about 28 cents.
I found a neat sterling silver ring from Mexico in the sand. When the detector beeped I could see just a little of the ring in the sand.
I found a cheap CZ stud earring. I thought I found a match for an earlier discovery. The two stones are the same outer size but are cut differently.
I found one coin in the sand that has been in the surf a very long time. It is thin and unrecognizable. It is either the inner part of a clad dime or an old copper penny. When I have my next batch of pennies to clean I'll throw this in to see if there are any recognizable features.
For clad, I found 5 quarters, 6 dimes, 2 nickels and 13 pennies.
Tomorrow I think I will try Main Beach again then take a picnic lunch to Doheny Beach. As an alternative I may try San Clemente Beach to see if the ACE 250 can discriminate against all that rusted metal in the sand.
And maybe I will have to research and develope a new strategy for off season metal detecting.

Found out on the South African mint site that " RAND the monetary unit of South Africa". Very cool coin. The "krugerrand" is their gold coin and I had one on a necklace as a little girl. Awesome find.

The 2 Rand coin stuck to the magnet in my home made scoop. It is amazing how many coins out there are now ferromagnetic. That is probably why this coin was missed by the others searching the area. There are lots of bits of ferromagnetic material in the area. The sound was slightly different and it repeated. The Rand is the currency for three countries including South Africa.
