Post 49ERS knife

Today I planned on hitting the beach in San Juan Capistrano one more time. This is a beach with lots of fire pits which makes for lots of trash in the form of rusty nails and melted foil. It is an extreme challenge to pull good tones out of the constant iron signals.
The last time I scanned this beach I used the jewelry mode of the ACE 250. This time I used the all metal mode to help determine which signals were false alarms caused by a large mass of iron. Basically, since there is low usage of this beach now, I would find what I missed on Tuesday.
After the beach I planned on hitting a tot lot at a nearby park.
One of the nice things about this beach is the free parking available. There is a pedestrian access bridge over the railroad tracks and there is no charge to walk in. If you park inside it is $1 an hour.
I worked most of the beach and was surprised to pick up a few recenly lost coins. Some of the coins have been in the sand a very long time. I found 7 quarters, 6 dimes, 3 nickels, 18 pennies, a key and a 49ERS knife. The knife cleaned up very nicely (after the picture was taken).
Although I took a lot of foil (melted and flat) and pieces of iron, there is still a lot in there. So there is probably more clad left there too.
After the beach my wife and I had a fast food lunch then headed for the park and the tot lot. I had only seen the slides and stuff from the street as I drove by. When I stopped and got a good look it was a bummer.
The tot lot is paved in that cushiony asphalt like they put on outdoor basketball courts. No sand and no place for things to get lost. Now that I am looking around it seems that many (if not all) tot lots are mostly paved. There may be a sand box and a little dirt under the swings, but that is all.
No sidewalk strips and no searchable tot lots. Southern California does have some drawbacks. I guess I have to give up something to have year 'round hunting in unlimited beaches. I can take it!
Happy hunting this weekend.

Not a bad take of clad and neat knife. You also got some fine looking zincs in there.

Too bad about the tot lots though.

Unhappy Wheatie

One of the pennies that was unrecognizable turned up in my tumbler as a clean wheatie! It is a 1950 plain, so it had no numismatic value, but a shame to lose 57 years of patina.
The 49ERS knife really cleaned up nice using Mr. Metal polish. It looks brand new.
