Default My very first.....ever!

I had a chance to try this off brand detector this morning and this is what I found in one hour on my own property. My property is in timbered hillside....not farm land, so this is probably what one would expect to find here. I have about ~1 acre of searchable land (a clearing we call the meadow) and this junk represents a very small (about 10'x20') part of it. At this rate I may get rich selling scrap metal. I'm in the experimenting mode so I'm digging everything. I have a small wire probe and the first target seemed large. I stuck the wire probe in what seemed like the center of the signal and hit something solid about 3" down. Digging, I came up with the piece of a childs toy truck, complete with wheel. About a foot from that was the other piece of the same truck. Then a couiple of feet from there the cast iron grate piece. Then the can lid. All of this in about a 4' square. Then nothing for a time until I hit the crescent wrench.

All of these targets are large and I would expect to find some smaller irems, like nails, bolts, washers and the like......Nothing like that. But there may be an explanation. I did notice that the needle does swing to ferrous frequently, lighting the LED, but the tones don't sound. Everything found, so far, is ferrous, but all swung the needle to non-ferrous and pegged the needle when I was directly over the target. Perhaps this is how a discriminatory MD works????

Somewhere, I read that very rusty and corroded ferrous metals will, often times, show up as non-ferrous....is that correct?

I won't post this kind of trash again...but since this is my very first find......hey! It's something! Good for a laugh, eh?

Please keep posting, it dosen't matter what you find as long as you are finding it. Digging everything is a good idea when you are starting out new, that way you gradually get to know the different sounds and what they represent. Good Luck

Holy smokes!!! I'm totally eating crow about your new detector. I'm so happy it looks like it's really working for you. I totally agree with Anne, please continue to post your finds. One man's trash is most definitely another man's treasure. If this stuff was in your yard, just a 4' square, imagine what else is out there!! The more you practice with your machine, the more you'll start to understand what it's saying.

Great Job!!!!

Beleive it or not those are great finds! I always wonder where items came from. Can you picture a mechanic leaving his wrench up under a machine, then a driver pulling away only to run it over, then its lost forever.Theres a lot more treasures to be had in your field, and you are off to a good start

Maybe I could open a museum.

Checking my manual (which isn't the exact manual for this detector, but for one similar), I read that the tones don't sound when the meter needle goes to the ferrous side......so far, so good. I'm encouraged.

Don't eat that critter, yet, Pris. The jury is still out. I'll know more as I learn more. So far all it has found is scrap metal.

I'm wondering how long a wrench (or anything for that matter) has to be in one spot before it migrates down 3"+ into the soil.....and why does it migrate down in the first place? Puzzliing...Why are these things found underground?
