Default Park hunt

Well I finally pushed across the 2,000 coin mark, never would of believed it when I started in this hobby this spring, but sit at 2,011. The frost is not that far away, so digging will likely take a little winter respite soon. I found 20 quarters, 17 dimes, 2 nickels, and 28 pennies, one of which was a 1958-D wheatie.

Default Coin distribution....

I'm not sure if anyone ever took the time to figure this out, but since I am almost exactly at 2,000 coins found, the number is large enough to put significant confidence in the distribution percentage. For me it has worked out like this:

PENNIES: 45%
DIMES: 29%
QUARTERS 20%
NICKELS: 6%

This 2,000 coin sample has been taken from a variety of hunts including, but not limited to, parks, schools, private homes, trails, railroad tracks, river sides, etc.

I never really thought about the percentages, but that's definitely the order that mine come in at, and without doing the math, I would say my percentages are similar! Thanks for posting that Coilcop!

That's pretty cool, coilcop! Congrats on the milestone, and more importantly, congrats on being able to break down those percentages. That's a very interesting breakdown, as it really seems to be representative of my finds as well.

Congrats on reaching that goal! I think that is great.

I am wondering, how do you keep up with the coins? Do you write them down, use a spread sheet, or other? I thought I would start with the 1st of the year and count a full calander year. Thanks in advance, Beale.
