Talking More clad

Is there still silver in Ca???? Really having trouble finding anything old. Been doing research and finding some old spots. Found a field here in town that used to be a train depot built in 1870's and tore down in the 1950's. I've only got to search there once so far and found nothing but some clad and some old iron stuff.

Yes there is still silver there but it is harder to find than say here in Kentucky. You just gotta practice and you will find it.

try searching some houses built in the 1930's and 1940's, This year is my first year hunting and I am up to 15 silver coins this year so far. I am convinced that homes of this age hold almost as much silver as the really old ones. If you think in terms of the older you get, the more valuable the change was back then, and subsequently dropped less often then say the 40's and 50's. The most recent home I visited was built in 1947, in 2 1/2 hours I found 40 coins which included 6 wheats, 2 mercs and a silver washington. I found three mercs at a house built in 1940. Don't get me wrong, I would rather huunt the oldest places possible as they are obviously the most intriging, with the most potential, but don't sell short on the 30's, 40's, and 50's as they have alot to offer and it increases your list of potential sites dramatically. Hope this helps, HH

Hey there ohiohunter, Please refrain from telling folks about this secret. I just figured it out last month and it will work in any part of the united states consistently so lets just keep this one to ourselves OK. JC

Thanks JC, I regret every word...Once you hit send you can't take it back though.
In all seriousness, I too just figured it out a couple months ago, and my last five trips to houses have yielded silver. I know it's frustrating to a new detectorist to be envisioning that treasure, that old coin, and at times it seems like you will never get there. I call this my first year, but I really bought the detector about six years ago, used it a handful of times and stuck it into the closet. I think if I had found something like an old coin or ring back then, I would have been more addicted than I am now and it would have never made it into the closet. This is truly a hobby that is a constant learning experience. One of these days, I would like to get out with you, Eric (whitesDFX), and Paul Taulbee to try and learn some more.

Ben

We will do that Ohio. For some reason folks are reluctant to believe that it is that easy. I am up to 12 pieces in the last two months and expect to get 4 or 5 more this weekend. I usually don't expect to find more than 1 or 2 in a yard of a home but have been surprised once. When I started this hobby the last week of june I spent the first two months looking for the oldest places I could find. I still look for them but take time once in a while to collect some silver from a 40's or 50's yard. It's strange but I prefer yards of homes that are occupied. I think that it means the likelyhood of more coins. Could be wrong. JC
