Default Sniper in trash

Today I hit a beach that is very high in trash. It has fire pits about every 40 feet or so. There are lots of rusted nails and other fasteners, melted aluminum and aluminum pieces from the surf. I used the 4.5 inch sniper coil to develop a strategy for searching in the trash.

I had to move forward very slowly to get overlaps of the swings. I searched in the all metal mode. I found that in most cases where there was iron trash and a coin there would be the iron beep and the coin "boing". The display was necessary. From the display I could correlate the trash with the beep and a coin value indication with the bell tone. Also, I could see a different depth (most times) for the trash and coin.

Melted aluminum and round aluminum can bottoms sound like coins, as with the standard coil (9 x 6 inch). But the dollar indication is a discrimination. Real dollars are rare. Regular foil and pop tabs show up as what they are on the display.

There is a problem with very large masses of extremely rusted iron pieces giving a double signal (iron and coin). The coin indication varies and the depth jumps all over the place.

Overall the sniper coil was able to pull out valid targets missed in two previous sweeps using the standard coil.

The finds included 9 quarters, 17 dimes, 9 nickels, 27 pennies, a Ferrari model car, a really neat corkscrew (with bottle opener and knife blade) and a dog tag. The dog tag is for a AKC companion animal and has an 800 number and ID number. Although I think the ID is for recovery of the animal, not the tag. I will give them a call in the morning.

I thought it was unusual to find the tag in the sand. I decided not to dig any deeper...

It appears in the two trials of the sniper coil (near metal structures/fasteners and in high trash areas) that it is performing as hoped. I should get the spare lower rod and hardware assembly this Thursday to make changing the coil easier.
Happy Hunting.

nice finds and see the sniper is doing its job nicely. Way to discern those signals.
