Talking Treasure Island hunt

Today I decided to go for a random hunt. I drove to Laguna and headed south on the coast road. The first sign that indicated public access to the beach and parking turned out to be Treasure Island park.
The public parking is extremely limited, only 32 spaces. But there must be some parking elsewhere because I saw a rather large wedding party. Treasure Island appears to be a high classed development of apartments. There is an extensive set of ramps (pedestrian and carts) down to the beach.

It looks like not much MDing goes on here. I found some clad in really corroded condition. Soon after starting I found a kid's bracelet (rubber band with plated steel beads and charms). That was the only jewelry found. At some time during the short hunt I found a Swedish 1 Krona from 2000. It has the size and rough appearance of a quarter so I don't know when I picked it up. This 1 Krona has Carl XVI on the obverse and on the reverse "For Sverige i tiden", his saying. It translates to "For Sweden - with the times". The coin reference is Sweden km852a 1 Krona (1982-2000).

I also found 8 quarters, 8 dimes, 1 nickel and 12 pennies. I could have discovered more if my wife hadn't discovered a second flaw with the beach (besides the limited parking). There are no restrooms, at least none that we could find. I was just getting into the swing of things when we made that discovery.

I am going to give this strategy some more tries. I have noticed several public access signs along the coast road between Laguna and San Clemente. All I have to do to make use of them is find a way to park reasonably close.

So the hunt today was pretty good and yielded the first foreign coin in a while.

Happy hunting.

Sounds like a great strategy. Always is worth spending some time scouting. Nice Krona! How many countries now?

Have you set a goal for how many countries you want to find, or just the most possible?

Wink Foreign Coins

I really don't have any goals for total foreign coins. I didn't expect to find any other than Mexico and Canada. They have been a real surprise. I will probably just keep accumulating them. I have been thinking about a cardboard page with cutouts that I can print lables for and put in a clear plastic page protector.

I have a very large collection of foreign bills (some of them as much as 50,000,000,000 units of local currency, yes that's billions!). So this collection of coins will make for an interesting extra set of pages.

I used to have about 8 pounds of foreign coins, but I sent all of them to a grand-nephew in Indiana some time ago. I also sent him a clutch of 3 hadrasaur eggs (50 million years old). He has interesting show-and-tell times at school.

So far this year I have found (foreign and tokens):
6 Canadian pennies
2 Canadian dimes
1 Canadian quarter
1 Mexican 20centavos (1965)
1 Chilian 500 pesos
1 Swedish 1 Krona (1973)
1 Swedish 1 Krona (2000)
1 English penny
1 English 5 pence
1 English 10 pence
1 South Africa 2 rand
1 Turkish 5 kurus
1 Russian 1 ruble
1 Norwegian 5 krone
1 Chinese 5 yuan
2 Euro 10 cent
2 Euro 20 cent
1 Euro 50 cent
1 Disneyland flattened penny
1 Chuck E Cheese token
2 Golfland Arcade tokens
1 Northcross Lanes token
1 Nikolaus Carwash token
1 Frank's Bristol Carwash token
Happy hunting.
