Default 1890s Mining Ghost Town Finds

I got to get away today to check out the remains of a gold mining community that only lasted a few years in the 1890s. I'd never been to this "town" before, and it's on public land, but really off the beaten path, so I thought I might score some good finds. It's amazing, however, how this place -- so far off the path, even today -- could have so much metal strewn around! There is metal scrap everywhere. Not much else remains but one cabin, the foundations of several buildings -- all caved in and grown over -- and loads of remnants from the old mill. There are, of course, several old mine shafts, and even some old bed frames.

I didn't find much worth hauling out, given the density of metal targets and the rugged terain. I did find a few things, like an old broken lock (the back and insides are gone), a very large wood rasp, some spikes, and some bottle remnants -- I'd love to find a bottle dump! Here are some pictures, including one scenic from along the way. HH!

Still sounds like a cool place to hunt, Doug...BTW - I went through NM this past week on the way to Phoenix...had a meeting in Las Vegas NM...I knew I'd be too busy to hunt, so I didn't even bring my machine...maybe next time! HH!

Nice lock! Breath taking scenery. That alone makes the hike up there worth it!
