Default Cub Scout Camp

Well, finally got my ace 250.Was using a bounty hunter IV for the last year and decided to upgrade w/a new sniper coil too.I guess its called a stinger-same thing I guess.Great thing is , with two detectors-I got my buddy to come out and hunt with me.There is a sportsmans club in my suburb called Izaak Walton. In late 1800's the area was used as a "sand pit" where sand was taken out for a local cement factory(I live next to the worlds largest lime stone quarry) .Also documented as a swimming hole.Right next to this is a property that was once washington park racetrack-that burned down in the 70's,but was built in early 1900's.Basically about 20 acres or so of some great history.Anyway, in 1952 the club purchased an old barracks from a wwII camp and moved it there to be used as a lodge for the club. Adjacent to that was built another Cub house/learning center.I asked permission and was granted immediatly by the very curious groundskeeper.First day my friend and I hit the picnic area.Found some clad (as this area is used for frequent picnics/events) and left sorta dissapointed.I was surprised not to find much. But we gave it another try .Got a hall pass from the wives, filled up our coffee cups-put in the new batteries and we were on our way.I decided to start out near the cub scout building first. As I looked up to my friend before digging my first hit, I saw him already down on his knees, scoopin dirt like a little kid. My first dig was a 52 wheat-cool I thought, was this a sign? He walked over with too very old brass cub scout neckercheif clips. Pretty awesome for our first 15 minutes. Then I hit a pocket spill.1952,2-1948,2-1941,1-1936 and 1 1909 wheats. All with that beautiful old copper patina. All within a foot of eachother.
I cant beleive I didnt get 1 silver. But there has got to be some there. The pennies dated the area in the silver range.Apparently, nobody in my town metal detects. This is an untapped-permission granted ,well used camp.+ Im a member of the club (Izaak Walton). I used to fish here and play little league here when I was a kid.I never realized buried treasure was under my feet all those years. The cool thing is-the cub scout building, while still there, has fogged and dusty windows-doesnt look like its been used in 30 years.I peeked in the window and saw old posters and such-old furniture. It is truly exciting. Most people get excited finding a 20$ bill on a sidewalk. And I get a adreneline rush from a penny.Go figure. Now that my buddy is out w/me-my hobby just shifted to a sport-we love outdoing eachother. Will keep you posted as I search for the ellusive silver before the ground freezes. My post will be "back to the barracks" More good stories to come-Im sure.HH to all. Pics to come.

Sounds like a fun spot to detect. It's even more fun detecting with someone. Good luck, hope you find lots of silver.

Congrats on the Wheats! It sounds like you have found a great place to hunt. Good luck with it in the future, and in finding the silver, Beale.
