From what I have found, the medal was given to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Methodist church in the United States. Francis Asbury(1745 - 1816) came from England and was one of the founding fathers of the Methodist Church here.
If you plug in Francis Asbury 1866 and centenary of methodism in a google search. Quite alot will show up. Doug
