Question Confused in California

OK, this is for finds. So finds for the day first. 4 quarters, 12 dimes, 2 nickels and 10 pennies. Oh yea, a toy truck too.

The other day I discovered two silver dimes in my tumbler. They had come from a last ditch effort at San Clemente Beach when I ran a test below the erosion line from the recent storm. I went back to San Clemente and searched only at and below the erosion line and found 1 gold ring, 2 silver rings and a lot of clad.
That led to trying the same at Laguna Beach (no luck), Aliso Beach (no luck) and today at Crystal Cove (no luck). Today at Crystal Cove I was sure that the formula would be perfect. The erosion ran from about 12 inches (measured at the "cliff") to shoulder high in places. I covered about 2 miles of beach and found nothing. I did finally make it to the furthest southern section of beach. This is where there used to be houses, but they were washed away some years ago. This area is now a collection point for stuff that is the same or lighter weight of water.
I think I may have a clue to why some beaches work and not others. I got some hits today below the erosion line in wet sand where the waves would wash every few minutes. As I would dig sand out the water level was within a few inches of the top of the hole. The hole would instantly fill in with wet sand. It may be that coins and jewelry sink out of reach of the metal detector in this finer sand.
The sand at San Clemente may be coarser. I do know that at the water line near low tide there were pebbles an inch or so below the sand surface. It could be that the coarse sand and/or pebble content keeps the coins from sinking too deep.
Also, there is no explanation of the weird coincidence of finding the only two silver coins I have ever found on the same day, but no more on the next day of hunting.
So I thought I found an astounding new hunting technique - but maybe not. Or I just don't understand what I found.
Right now I am mighty puzzled. I have some contractor work being done to my house in the morning. Hopefully I can get them out by noon so I can go to San Clemente and sit on the beach. Hopefully I can get a vision! They won't let me sit on the beach overnight or I would sit until I did get a vision. Silver coins one day and three rings the next to too great of an event to not learn something!
Happy Hunting to all:snowman:

Hey John good luck with the "vision". I know that beach hunting is a different animal for sure. I found a site that talks about it. Those guys speak of cuts, being sanded, and other. I hope you find a formula, Beale.

It sounds like you are on the right track but I have not figured that one out yet either. I do know that when the erosion moves the sand out it is a good thing. JC

Well, here's my 2 cents: The pebbles could slow down the migration of gold but not stop it. Teh only thing I think will prevent it from sinking further is a thick layer of clay or mud. And I mean thick. Gold will always sink in sand. Sand movement will bring it back to the top but it needs to be in the area that gets affected by waves and tide. Storms are the sculptors of the beach.

Here's my alternative answer:

Dear Confused in California:

It sounds your Feng Shui is to blame. Maybe an Aura adjustment is all that is needed here. A visit to your local Aura Specialist should do the trick then go back to the beach, sit down and tell it how it makes you feel when it doesn't cooperate. That should put things back in perspective!

2nd alternative:

Go to Starbucks and ponder this over a
Quarter-caf, Quad Three-Decaf-Luongo One-Ristretto Grande-in-double-Venti wax-paper, Two-pump-hazelnut, One-pump-sugar-free-vanilla, half-pump-Irish Creme, Quarter-Percent, Quarter-Soy, Half-Heavy-Whipping-Cream Breve, Half-pack-Sweet-and-Low, Quarter-pack-Equal, Two-and-a-third-Honey, One-Raw-Sugar, Light-Extra-Foam, Thick-Whole-Foam, No-Whip, Six-ice-cube, 186-degree, Caramel Sauce-top-and-bottom, three-pump-Ebony, Mocha Valencia Macchiato

John, I am still new to this beach hunting stuff. I for one have a lot to learn, but I will try. I am still getting all my ducks in a row for hunting and then I will hit it full force. I still like dirt fishing the best, but I can get to like this beach hunting Too. Congrats...Buster.....

Your posts are always informative. Though I haven't hunted an ocean beach, I like to think that reading your posts is preparing me for the time I get the chance. Thanks.
