Default 4 day Panama City Beach Hunt

Well, I'm off to find my treasure chest full of gold this morning. Headed to Panama City Beach for 4 days of beach hunting. I have my new books "Digging Deeper with DFX" and "Understaniding Whites DFX" so I'll have plenty of reading material to keep me busy at night. This is going to be more of an educational trip for me. I have become a little discourged with my DFX lately mostly because I haven't found much jewelry, haven't found any gold at all. A friend of mine met me for a short hunt one day and brought a small gold ring he had found. He layed it on the ground and I ran my DFX over it (in stock coin/jewelry mode with minor modifications) and it went bonkers. It was all over the place. Jumping from foil to pulltab to ring to dime to penny to nail and so on. Maybe it's because it was laying on top of the ground, maybe it's because of the settings or maybe it's because of the soil, I don't know. I've passed the DFX over a large chain with a dog tag on it and it's like the DFX went silent....almost no signal.....what's up with that??? Anyway, I'm determined to figure it out. I've jotted down some notes from the "DFX Only" forum and I'm determined to figure this contraption out if it's the last thing I do. Wish me luck

I'll be sure to update this thread when I return.

padmaster, in the above mode the DFX will probably null out when it goes over iron. It is set to disc on iron.

Hope you have a god time in the Gulf and find bunch's

Good luck up there! I've had some good times in P.C. and I"m sure there's lots to be found. Shouldn't be too many people runnin' around the beach this time of year so I hope that's in your favor!! Good luck, again!! :santa1:

So far I've found one very old license plate, a lot of nails, some funky green pennies and other misc. change.. but who's counting? I'm just here to have fun, giggle, and make friends along the way!

I think bbqcook hit the nail on the head. You got "nulled". Happens on most every detector with large ferrous targets.

Hey pad master, I agree with the nulling and you know it picks up gold from the ring, the erratic tones was probably because it was on the surface, or possibly there was another target in the ground below the ring, did you check without the ring there?

At the beach, just dig everything. If you sweep over gold, you'll get it!

Have a great vacation and good luck!
