Cool Silver Earring

I returned to a beach I discovered yesterday - Camel Peak (Just south of Aliso Beach). There has been more sand erosion from the high tides and storm swells. But searching in the wet sand below the erosion cliffs brought nothing but pennies, just like yesterday.
I went onto the dry sand and gridded quite a bit on either side of the area I gridded yesterday. But there was no way to cover the whole beach before sundown. Aliso Beach (where I was parked) was shutting down at sundown because there is no power due to demolition and construction going on.
I wore a different pattern sole on my shoes today so I could tell the difference between yesterdays tracks and today's.
Almost as soon as I started gridding I discovered the earring that I have attached a picture of. The ACE said it was silver, but there are no marks. Of course I only found one earring. When I got home I verified the earring is silver with two seed pearls (not plastic). I also noticed that all three of the faces are slightly different. I included a view of each of the faces.
I spent as much time as possible gridding and only discovered more clad. When I had about 45 minutes to sunset I began a random zigzag to the south end of Camel Peak beach and back towards Aliso beach. The plan was to have karma guide me. I walked into two sets of keys, then a very cheap earring, and more clad. I found two quarters and one dime in the dry sand that show extreme sand blasting. I really don't understand how they could be where they were and look like they came from the wet sand at the surf line.
While still walking a random pattern I found a quarter and nickel that were bright and shiny - definitely from today. It still amazes me that I can do as well with a random walk as I do with a disciplined gridding. A couple of times I gridded the area around a find and found nothing else. But I will take it!
Even though there is a hotel at the south end and plenty of beach access from the coast highway there isn't likely to be very much old stuff in the sand. Much of the sand is washed and eroded periodically.
I found 7 quarters, 4 dimes, 6 nickels and 19 pennies for the clad. A couple of the quarters and one of the dimes looks to be worn down to the copper core and will probably end up in my bad coin jar.
I examined the sand layers along the erosion cliff. There are thick layers of fine sand and thin layers of coarse sand. I'm not sure of what the time scale is or what it all means. I will keep an eye on it and see if I can find a pattern.
I think I will spend tomorrow exploring around Corona Del Mar to check out some tips from Boogeyman.
Happy hunting to all:santa1:

I'm not 100% positive but I would say the design is Celtic. Ok, I'm 99% positve but that still means I'm not 100% positive.

What can I say about the random searching? If it works, you can't argue with success!

John, I believe Steve is right. The design is called a triskelion, and there are different variations of that design. Its also a very nice find too!

That's an awesome earring! Pearls are always lovely, and that design is nifty too! I thought it reminded me of the symbol of "om" - but it isn't exact so Steve's probably right. WTG! And the random searching vs. grid is understandable, I think the grid is more for your own peace of mind later. How much does it suck to stand back and wonder if you missed a spot? Whatever works for you, works for me - It's obvious whatever you're doing is right!!

So far I've found one very old license plate, a lot of nails, some funky green pennies and other misc. change.. but who's counting? I'm just here to have fun, giggle, and make friends along the way!
