Smile Rune Tennesmed Angel

Yesterday I went THing - but was too tired to take the pics and post. I am finally getting the time.
First, I would like to thank everyone for the very kind comments. They are greatly appreciated.
Yesterday I planned on hunting on the Balboa Peninsula. There are two piers, the Newport Beach pier and the Balboa Pier along Balboa Blvd (Newport Blvd on the other side of the Coast Highway).
The Newport Pier was first. As soon as I stepped on the beach I saw another MD south of the pier, so I went north. I worked along the erosion cliff (only about 1 foot) and at the debris lines. I found a Verizon phone and little more besides extreme amounts of trash.
There was something unusual going on. The wave line looked like a traffic jam of surfers. There were probably 50 or so out there catching waves. There were several photographers on the beach taking pictures and along the beach there were cars parked with more obsevers.
I heard one of the observers speaking on a phone telling someone to get to Newport for the weekend to catch the 5-8 foot waves. Surfs up! Hopefully there will be a crowd of observers on the beach (70's for air temp.) and they drop a lot.
As I worked north (not finding much) I ran into another MD. So I left the wet sand and went to the dry sand next to the bike/pedestrian trail. I had a little better luck there, although the number of bottle caps was extremely high. I did find a Disney Badge "First Visit". I didn't get one on my first visit, so it is about time (38 years too late).
It was near the bike trail that I made my best find of the day. It was an angel with the mark "R. Tennesmed Sweden" on the back. It didn't look silver and it wasn't attracted by the magnet. After researching at the end of the day I found that Rune Tennesmed is a world renown "master" of pewter casting. But the pewter castings are only $5 new and retail. I also found the toy action figure (cat woman or is there a bat girl???).
I picked up lunch at a beachside grocery and had a picnic before heading down to Balboa Pier.
At Balboa Pier the beach erosion cliff was 5-6 feet and went as far south as the eye could see and quite a way north also. I started south first with absolutely no luck. About 1/4 mile into the hunt I wondered if I could see anything worthwhile in the cliff. As soon as I looked I saw a round shape and when I waved the coil by it I got a beep. It was a penny. I continued looking at the cliff and scanning the wet sand below it for about 2 miles with no good hits or sightings. I walked back to the pier searching along the debris line and further towards the water, with no luck.
I performed the same kind of search along the cliff north of the pier - no luck. There is piled up sand (like dikes) along the beach in two lines. Before I had good luck at the peaks, but not this time. When I started searching south of the pier I got a couple of coins.
I went over to the playground equipment and searched around. I got an odd hit under one of the swings. I scooped and found a brass cartridge, Winchester 223 REM.
I tried to look along the bike trail but most of the ground near it at the Balboa pier was dirt/grass and I didn't have my digging tools along. When I got back to a sandy area near the trail there was so much trash (like fire pit debris) that I couldn't hunt successfully.
On the way back to the car I stopped and searched around a life guard station that I had missed. I picked up a few dimes there.
The clad for the day was 4 quarters, 10 dimes, 5 nickels and 20 pennies. Almost all if it was from dry sand.
I don't know what it is that makes the erosion area of San Clemente so good for hunting, but no other beach. I have taken the incline of the beach, the height of the erosion cliff, direction the beach is facing and time after the storm into account. The only possible difference is that San Clemente is the only beach that I have never seen another MD.
But then, the finds are just icing on the cake. Being at the beach, getting exercise, walking the MD and enjoying spending all day with my wife is more than I could ask for. I don't mind a little gold though!
This weekend should be perfect beach weather and the surf is up. I will probably do some exploring Saturday to see what the beach populations are like, covering beaches from Huntington down to San Clemente.
Happy hunting to all!

Nice day John, what you described is what MD'ing is all about.

Also, cool angel and good research and my guess would be Cat Woman.
