Default Short Hunt Provides A Nice Keeper!

Yesterday, While waiting for my mom to have her hair done I decided to kill the hour by detecting. My daughter's home (she purchased about a year ago was built in the 1940s) was down the road about 1 1/2 miles so I headed there. I have hit this yard several times and it has turned a few clad coins and some nice household relics. I decided to try an area near the rock drive way that I haven't hunted very much. I started out with 3 memorial cents and a clad dime and of course 5 or six pop tops and small foil scraps. I then hit a nice signal at 4" and after a little digging and searching out pops a Insurance Co. Medallion about the size of a half dollar. As my hour was about to end I made my way back to where I was parked and hit a good signal at about 6". I dug a plug and of course there were tree roots in the way and the signal was coming from below them. I dig with a regular 10" heavy household knife and it was a struggle but finally I free up the target from under the roots and it is some type of Eagle badge or something but I think that is pretty cool. I rescan the hole and get another loud signal so I go back to work on the roots and finally pop out a silver dollar sized disc that goes with the Eagle piece that I dug first. The back of the disc has a threaded rod sticking from it so it must have screwed into somethiing at one time. I must have separated the two pieces in my efforts to recover them from under the tree roots. Anyway, the Eagle Medallion is one of my favorite pieces that I have dug to date ... thanks for looking!

Sweeeeet! On the PD I worked at, my campaign hat also had a little badge with the same screw type back to hold it on. Maybe a Military hat insignia?
