Wink Is Cheaper Better???? You Be The Judge

Hi, First Off I Want To Apologize For The Quality Of The Picture It's The Only One I Have. I Just Thought I Would Post A Picture With Some Information About It. I Am Hoping This Information Will Help Out Any Newbies And Encourage Them To Keep Pushing On Even If They Are Unable To Purchase An Expensive Metal Detector Right Now. Or For Any One Else Out There That May Have Fallen Asleep At The Wheel. I Am Not Posting This Information & Picture To Get Praise,Compliments Or A Pat On The Back. Furthermore I Am Not Going To Mention Any Brand Names Here Because I Think It's Irrelevant To This Issue. Now Here's My Story. A Few Years Back I Owned Many Different Models And Brands Of Metal Detectors (14 of them to be exact). Well One Day I Was Thinking To Myself Does The Brand & Cost Of A Detector Determine The Difference Between Success And Failure ? Well What's Stopping You? Read On You Know You Want To Know The Outcome...I Thought To Myself Can A Cheaper Detector Compete With A Detector Costing Hundereds Of Dollars More? Is It The Detector Or The Operator That Determines Your Final Coin Count? Here's How I Conducted My Experiment. I Took Two Of My Machines That I Was Very Familiar With. I Knew Both Of These Machines Inside And Out. One Of Them Cost Me Around $150.00 And The Other One Around $800.00.. I Stuck To My Plan Which Was To Run The Test For Two Months And Run Both Machines For The Same Amount Of Time On The Same Grounds..I Monitored The Time I Used Each Machine With My Stopwatch On My Wrist. Hey I Know What Can I Say I'm High Tech.. During A Two Month Time Period I Hit The Usual Places Like Parks,Fairgrounds,Schools Etc. Now Here's The Results: Both Of The Machines Were So Close To Each Other It's Not Even Funny. The Higher Priced Machine Did Win By A Couple Of Coins. Now I Could Of Taken The Extra Money I Saved By Buying The Cheaper Detector And Went To A Coin Shop & Bought More Coins And Totally Blew The More Expensive One Away But That's Cheating. Now Here's Some Food For Thought.. I Really Had Fun Running Both Machines. It's Not Always About How Much You Find Or The Quality Of Your Finds It's About The Fun,Freedom,Exercise & Comradery Or Just Getting Out With Someone You Love.. In Conclusion Let Me Say This. In My Opinion In Most Cases It's The Operator Of The Metal Detector.. Not The Detector Itself!! Yes You Got It.... LEARN YOUR MACHINE!!!!! You Really Need To Listen To What Your Detector Is Saying To You. Metal Detectors Have A Way Of Speaking To You In Their Own Unique Subtle Way. Treat It Like It's A Fine Lady. Most People Hear But They Don't Listen. After All That's What A Women Really Wants Is To Be Heard And Understood Etc.. (ladies reverse this thought) .. Well That Concludes This Story. If You Made It This Far To Read This I Just Want To Say Thanks. If You Did Not Learn Any Thing I Hope I At Least Made You Think About Your Detecting Techniques Or Your Perception Of.... Is Cheaper Better ? You Be The Judge.........Thanks

Hey Jimmy very good post. That is an awesome pile of silver by the way! I actually agree with you on the verdict. That is the reason I try to hunt as much as possible, to learn my machine. Thanks for the test and write up, Beale.

Jimmy, you said it well!!! I have 2 detector's, One I lend out to anyone who wants to join me on a outing who are new to the hobby and not equipt...Charly has joined me on several trips...she has posted here a few times...She has really grown to love the hobby...She has used my first detector (an inexpensive) I purchased for this great enjoyable hobby...It found me silver coins and awesome relics...and her the same, also has found her a few rings on our outings that I didn't get...She loves it!!! If your not learning or listening to your machine...doesn't matter which you purchase...And either will make some great finds...And even if you don't make great finds every trip...the exercise and the thrill of searching for treasure...is the bomb!!!!!
(What a blast)
Nice silver finds you have there

Jimmy, well said..It's true..Most people hunt because they like to. I know that's me anyway. Even if I didn't find much, I would still go on..My bottle cap and pull tab collection is proof on that. It's true it's not what you find, but the time you have finding it. Expensive is good but as you said it's how you learn your machine for sure.....Buster....

Great thoughts and advice, Jimmy! A metal detector is no different from any other piece of equipment a person uses for work or hobby - if it's not learned and used properly - you will not get optimum results.

Thanks for this post JJ. Sometimes we all think if we get the more higher priced machines then we will find more finds, its good to be reminded that its how we run and learn our machine that makes the difference.
