Congratulations John, the cub scout slide is a cool find, as are the Chucky Cheese tokens. I have several in that style, maybe it's an east coast style moreso than west coast?

The park sounds like alot of potential, looking forward to seeing what all the goers leave for you . Good Luck!

Default looks like an old Sixer's Woggle

They switched to the leather woggles with a brass clip in the 70's as a cost saving measure. The whole scouting movement has been going down hill since the 60's, a shame really.
Looks like a decent hunt just the same, John.

Cheers,

BDA

Smile KSBR Bash is it!

(edit: just did a bit more searching, this is probably it right here the KSBR (Jazz FM 88.5) Birthday bash. Tickets going on sale the 3rd March for the show on 25th May. KSBR Birthday Bash 2008!)

Yup, that's the radio station I listen to. I only heard parts of the announcement. Memorial day weekend is the start of the summer so beaches will get the highest priority. Thanks for the help. Looking at the KSBR site makes it sound like a much bigger event than I gathered from the radio spot.
Happy hunting

Very nice hunt, John. I haven't ever found any of those neckerchief things. I've seen a bunch of people on here find them and would love to unearth one. Sure looks old!

How are you enjoying searching in parks and grassy areas? Are you getting used to it, yet? Looks like you're doin' pretty well

Nice finds! My son is in cub scouts and his neckerchief slide is always falling off.

I started looking in parks and grassy areas when the beaches got down to slim pickens. I am doing a minimal invasive type hunt using the knife I found at Salt Creek, The ACE 250 and a Bullseye II pinpointer.
Most targets I go after have to be visible to the Bullseye - a couple of inches. A few targets I pinpoint with the ACE and dig deeper - very few.
That way there is no way to detect where I have been hunting - and hopefully I won't wear out my welcome anywhere.
I have the sensitivity of my ACE down to almost nothing - that keeps me from finding false alarms from ground balance.
I also carry my Bowie knife and stuff to do deeper digs - but I haven't had any reason to go that much deeper yet.
I definitely like hunting in dry sand the best. Hopefully spring break will seed the beaches for a few hunts. I can't wait for summer!!!
Right now my wife and I are heading out to the "Village Green" at the Oso Viejo park to see if anything is left from past seasons.
John

Good luck, John! I'm sure that you'll find a bunch more once the masses come back to the beach.

It sure sounds like you're doing well in the grass, though I've been hunting five times a week in the same little park for over a year, now, and you can't tell I've been there at all. I think that unless a place has really bad grass to begin with, you should be fine to dig a bit deeper.
