Default And the adventure continues!

Headed out East up in the mountains to try and find an old flume builders camp and possibly some old homesteads, and try out the new 6x10DD coil.

Found the old camp, but it didn't produce like I thought it would Just some bullet fragments, and the occasional trash item. The ground had allot of iron in it, both natural and man made, so it was a bit tough to hunt.

Headed down to a designated campsite to see what we could find down there. Lots of trash, including tons of brass cartridge cases and a few live rounds. Did pick up a few pennies, but that was about it.

On the way back out, we seen some old fruit trees that were blooming. Remembered being told that that was a good sign that there may be a homestead near. Walked around a bit and seen a square nail laying on the surface. Wow! I have been wanting to find a square nail or two after being told about how they were made and used. Started hunting and found a bunch more nails. Seems that this area is square nail heaven! Not much else there except for the button I found about 5" deep under one of the fruit trees. Need to get with Pappy to see if it's old. Found some old bottle and porcelain pieces there also, so there may be an old dump in the area also. Will be headed back to the area to try and find the old town called Lyonsville that has been gone for many years. Used to me a lumber mill community with a boarding house, bar and a fairly large Chinese community that worked in the mill and built rock fences.

The other pic is of the area where we were hunting. That is Mt. Shasta in the background. Also found an old family cemetery with headstones and all. I think the newest headstone was 1939. Got some pics if anyone is interested.

Though the areas didn't produce what I thought they might, I did get out and see some land I haven't been to for a few years and had fun. More research should produce the old mill site int he near future.

Frank

Congratulations on getting out. I would think there's gotta be some good stuff up there some where. Very nice countryside also.

Hey Frank good job on getting out! It sounds like a great prospective area. I am not so sure I would not hit it again. Good luck to you, and a great picture of the country, Beale.

Nice collection of nails Frank.. When you think that some of them were probably made by hand gives them some history...
Heard a story once where the family would move the anvil into the house during winter and make nails over the fire in the evening... Come Spring a keg of nails was worth a cow.. Also heard some of the best nail smiths were women..
Nice shot of Shasta..

Yes, I will be back at some time. It's a good 50 miles from me, so it's not an after work thing. Still want to find the old mill town that is out that way. Should be some good stuff out there.

Hey Bob,

There were allot of them out there. There must have been an old home there at some point. I think I may know were it was, but there was a giant mud hole there right now. Back later in the spring to see if I'm right.

Shasta always takes a good picture...

Fine display of old nails you have there.

Sounds like it was a good time, didn't have to dig for that.
