Default Frozen ground

First trip out of the year. Was going to a WW2@ POW camp site / girlscout camp (what a change, huh) but couldnt find parking so instead went to the old faithful boy scout camp at a private preserve I belong to.Found a couple of 44' wheats and a handful of clad. And one bullet casing that looks to be a blank, maybe shot on a memorial day of years past. This site is full of targets and Im always finding stuff-had a great 25cent signal on my ace 4-6"-problem was , you could only dig in the full sunlight. If there was so much as a leaf on the ground,it was frozen solid past an inch...but ohh the feeling..that familar ringing in my ears, the dirt ground under my fingernails-the damp earth soaking into my knee on my jeans....ahhh.to MD again....its the things I have dreamt of hibernating in frozen chicagoland for the past 4 months.
And in the full sun, the ground was soft, tenderly holding the little treasures mother earth was able to hand up to me.
Finally,I can take all those printed out maps Ive been compiling from my hours of research ,and put them to use.
I can finally find what Im looking for-and put a face to the image.

Here are my research goals for this year-so keep an eye out for my follow up.

1.biggest research epiphany:After researching through a local historical society, heard about a ww2 pow barracks that later became a girl scout camp. Its in a forested area, and in a clearing,on google map,I found the footprints of the old barracks and to the west,in the middle of the woods , also found what appears on satelite, to be a foundation next to the creek.I have yet to see this sight first hand...so my curiosity has been killing me.

2.Ghost town-Through historical society research of a differant local town, found a original map of the town showing the saloon,blacksmith,gen.store.When overlaid onto mapquest map-it is now a subdivision-with a huge park over a greater portion of the old town. The platform of the old train depot is still visible and accessable.

3.Open Farmland-Near a area that was in the news last year for a meteor fall where several peices were recovered. Also a old farmhouse on the property thats owned by a relative.

4.An overlay map of the 1893 chicago worlds columbian exhibition-still researching where I can legally MD and who I need to contact.

5. Forest preserve-I need to request for permission from the forest preserve for a permit-per one of the rangers-but have found the general local of a old french fort.Unknown if I will be able to MD here.

Keep an eye out for my posts....more to come!!!

Good luck to everyone this year!!!!!!!!!!!
DH

Congrats on getting out! Sounds like a good day to me. Wheaties and sunshine, it does not get much better. Good research also, Beale.
