Smile Light clad day in San Clemente

I decided to try out San Clemente today. There was a surprising number of people at the beach. This is the only beach I have seen where the dry sand has been restored and the erosion cliff has been leveled off. Not sure if it was done by the city or is a natural occurrence, but it sure is welcome.
I will have to hunt this beach very early in the morning before the crowds get there. There wasn't much room to search around in that wasn't covered with a blanket or beach towel. I was forced closer to the water in the wet sand. I found some clad, but it had been in the water quite a while. One clad dime had most of the copper core eaten away - kind of neat looking, but can't be rolled for the bank.
I met a MD newbie and talked a while. He hasn't made many finds yet, but does have a gold ring and a couple of silvers. Best clad days around $2 or $3, no silver coins. I gave him some tips on better places around here to hunt and strategies of the grass and parking meters. I also told him it would be a very good idea to log onto Treasure Quest for support and great tips.
I ran around the sand a little while then headed back to the car. There are meters in the grass along the street. But the grass is a very short dense kind. I would thing that coins wouldn't drop out of site. Along the way to my car I detected bunches of pennies and 1 quarter. I stopped and dug the quarter. I had enough crusty pennies for the day.
While at the beach I tried the swings again. For the first time ever I found a quarter under the swings. It's about time!
I only hunted a couple of hours today and turned up 3 quarters, 4 dimes, 3 nickels, 30 pennies and one key. Oh yea, I picked up several lead fishing weights again today.
The weather was fantastic again. Just being at the beach makes it all worth while. A couple of finds, even clad, makes it better. And I made mental notes of where everyone was on the beach. I hope I can manage to get up very early tomorrow to hunt it. There has to be something in that loose dry sand.
Happy hunting

Hey John sounds like a fun day to me. Glad to see you out and about. Good luck on hitting the beach prior to the crowd, Beale.
