Smile Sunset & clad

I didn't have what it took to get up at oh-dark-thirty this morning for a sunrise hunt. At the end of last summer I was able to do a six hour hunt on the dry sand and take it in stride. The four hour hunt yesterday laid me out. Even two Tylenol PM didn't help. But then at Doheny beach I have to go up and down a steep hill in dry loose sand.
I was ready to hunt by sunset though. I headed for San Clemente to make the hunt that I skipped last night because I didn't want to leave Doheny. I got to the beach around 4 PM when there is only one more hour of parking to pay for ($1). The beach was clearing out when I got there leaving plenty of open sand to hunt.
The hunt went normally - I looked for the signs of activity, where blankets were and especially where chairs had been set up. I was hoping for gold and silver, but had to settle for clad only. After yesterday at Doheny I can take that.
I did have time to look at the sand on the far side of the lifeguard office. There are some exercise stands and a volley ball court over there. But I found almost nothing and there was something in the sand that drove the ACE wild. It would sound like a target, but when I went back there wouldn't be another beep.
I was on the south side of the pier at sunset - the sun set behind the pier from that angle. There was a tide change underway (going to high tide) so there was some fog in the air and a little low clouds. That made for a pink sunset that was pretty spectacular.
The yield for the day was 15 quarters, 13 dimes, 3 nickels, 32 pennies and 1 Canadian penny. I just realized that I must have thrown the Canadian penny in my regular penny can. I have to sort it out now.
Most of the clad I picked up today (not pennies) was clean and ready to roll. That is one big advantage over hunting in the dirt. I have a load of clad in the tumbler tonight from the grass at Laguna. It takes some the the clad a full 24 hours of tumbling to get clean enough to roll.
The temperature is ideal this time of year. Later it will be very hot and sweaty on the dry sand, even before sunrise.
Happy hunting to all

Hey John congrats on the hunt! The clad adds up and helps defer the gas or parking, Beale.

Still a good hunt John. Climbing up and down hills of loose sound will take it out of you for sure. The only hills at the beaches I go to are dunes but they're off limits to prevent eroision, so it's basically all flat for me.
