Good Afternoon everyone
I was run out of the Desert today by threat of flash Floods ,Heavy rain in the mountians ,and since the site I was at is on the otherside of several big washes , I decided to stop early and post a few pics of some of my other finds. This is a 1951 New Mexico Chauffers badge, It was dug this winter from my own front yard. Rick

Hi Morestuff
I was a little surprised that it was in as good of shape as it is, I think that it was nickel clad and that is what helped it to survive,, without it it probly would look like most of the wheaties that I dig up . Rick

Metalman: Yes, that layer of nickel really helped alot. I have seen various chauffeur badges for the states here in the east and from California. They sometimes show up at classic car and automobilia swap meets. I would think that one from New Mexico would be rather rare (after all, how many licensed chauffer's could there have been in that area in 1951?!!). There may even be records at the state capitol that could match-up the serial number with the name of the driver to whom it was issued.
Nice find, and from your own front yard! ![]() |

I have tried attributing the number to a driver by internet, but i guess that those records are not available in that venue, one day I might go to Santa Fe and see what I can find archived in paper,I have a friend here who found one from 1949 its the oldest I have seen from the state, but to be honest I have been slothful in the research of these badges, they are not a real big interest for me,I am a long time coin collector I specialize in Merc's and small cents but I keep everything I dig ,real interesting the things that can be found.

Gregory
Are your dimes in circulated Grade or Uncirculated? I collect both !!! Hope you will keep me in mind when that tradgedy occurs, I would cry a river should I have to part with my dimes, They have taken literally years to aquire and some of them when I look at them I see a Goldwing that was sold ,and a car or two that was sold to buy them ,, so if you want to give a few of them a good home Im in the Merc adoption business. Rick
