Default V nickel

Well I'm fairly new to this site. I have been on the DFXONLY site alot. Any ways not sure how to post a pic. About 2 weeks ago I broke the 1900's finally and found a coin that i haev never found as well was a great day for me. I found a 1890 V-Nickel not in that great a shape but hey I know what it is and I will take a day filled with old coins in bad shape any day over nothing but scrap metal

Thanks Will Lane

PS if the admin will e-mail I will send pic to add to the post

Hi tennessee

Nice find, If you do not intend to get rid of the nickel, there are a couple of methods that can be used to clean a little of the matrix off it, a little vinegar and baking soda will loosen alot of it, dont leave the coin in the mix for long at a time and a gentle scrub with a soft tooth brush in between ,or the longer safer method would be to soak the coin for several weeks in olive oil, with a couple of oil changes in between will do ok also,

The nickel in G-4 grade retails at about 6.50 but steps up rapidly with better grades. cleaned you can take off two grades on the market value.

again Nice find

Gregory I have dug many nickels new that is and even the new one don't take well to the dirt they seem to be in most states
