Default Flying eagle

Stoped on the flats on my way home from work today. found an old house site. the ground is very very trashy but was able to pull out a pewter spoon and a 1857 flying eagle cent in decent shape. Got it soaking in oil now should clean up nice. Well see in about a month.

Default oil

I like to get old coppers into olive oil as soon as possible. As soon as they come out of the ground they start to dry and degrade. I put them into a small tin with paper towels soaked in olive oil. this stops the green corosion from forming. When I get home I soak in oil in a small jar. it seems to harden the surface of the coin and the dirt and corosion comes off the coin. After about a month or 2 clean with dish soap and a toothbrush. Works pretty good.

Tim

I got a 1858 last fall and the 1857 yesterday figure the 1856 will come next
