Default Detected Old Railroad Stop in CO.

This area was a railroad stop where they took on coal and water in the late 1800's. I had no clue it existed in this open field a couple of miles down the road from my house. I happen to find it searching for something else on the Internet. My bro-in-law and I found a few RR spikes, a small motor, a couple of horse shoes, a curved piece with a ring we believe belonged on a covered wagon or buggy, a ladle minus the handle, a 1926 wheat penny, and misc. unidentified metal pieces. We only covered a fraction of this area. The land is up for sale and could be graded over at any time. I want to go back after it's graded, maybe the tractors will bring more treasures to the top.

Places like this are hard to detect, but cool. You never know what you may find. It's these "low probability, high consequence" places I've been focussing on this spring. Nice!

Beautiful spot and great finds... I'll swap a pile of rust like that for silver any day..
Pity they are going to grade history..

That is an excellent site! You don't see too many of those just layin' around, waiting to be detected! WTG on the research - accidental means it was meant to be!! A good rain would probably help if it doesn't get graded anytime soon.

Great job! You did much better on the finds at your old train station then I did at the one around my parts. I'd go back there all the time, then again when they grade it.

Did that line run north and south or was it a line that went into the mountains?

Hey EPC Guy
In 1887 the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe line ran north and south, Denver to Pueblo. The depot/stop area I was at was shut down in 1935 and the Palmer Park depot was used in joint tenancy with the Rio Grande. Whether the line went into the mountains, I don't know. I would think that a line from the mountains would have intersected it at some point.
