Default An Old lady and 1 fat injun and 1 skinny one

Got out to my ghost town today with acouple of buds. Yesterday I had broke my oldest coin mark with a fatty either a flying eagle or fatty indian, so I knew it was between 1856-1864, vague but it had to be one of those dates. So today we meet out at the old train depot and start swinging. I struck first with an 1889 Indian (the newest coin actually found there, except one mysterious out of place 1976 penny). About 20 minutes later I hit another signal, this one became my new oldest coin, could read the date clearly, 1860 "fatty" Indian head. About this time I was starting to fear for my life from my digging partners. Now this farmland/ghost town has a railroad depot and 4 or 5 house that were on it. the last dated map I could find with anything built on it was 1870. I have never really detected around where the house's were yet, so me and Jon and my two kids started swinging that way. About 40 minutes later I recieved a very strong quarter signal about 6" down. The meter wasnt swaying at all so I was becomming very excited due to never having dug a silver 1800's coin. About that time Jon piped up and said "its a large cent" and on the next shovel full, out popped my "new" oldest coin to date, an 1851 (I believe) Braided Hair large cent. What an amazing weekend, I have broke my oldest dated coin not once, but three times in two days. HH ya'll.....Bill

Default I was lucky

This land is all owned by my best friends mother and father, unlimited access. Corn was planted this past year and wheat the year before, so this year is beans, I am actually waiting for them to plow it. The only downside to swinging at a train depot is the amount of IRON, its very hard to decipher the signals. I will most likely be out there again tomorrow doing some swinging, after the morning parade and after I go pay my respect to my fallen brothers and sisters.

Congrats on those great finds! I do have a question. Is "Fatty" a term used for the Indians of certain years? Or just something else, like "man that was some fatty music"? As in good? Just wondering, Beale.

"I do have a question. Is "Fatty" a term used for the Indians of certain years?" A fatty is an Indian head between the years 1859-1864, it was much thicker than the Indian heads between 1865-1909. The weight was 4.67 grams for the Fatty's and 3.11 grams for the later years. Hope this helps EBCIII
