Default Oldest One So Far

Went to Fort Covington New York, a little town on the US - Canadian border. Was a BBQ going on, but I preferred to MD the park. I was tryin to figure out where to start (after eating of course !!) There was a outside roller rink/ skateboard area. I noticed the containment wall had a nice 2x6 ledge all the way around, and thought that people woulda put stuff on the ledge, it woulda got bumped, and presto, another find in the grass, on the outside of the rink !! I also noticed it was banked up with sand (with grass growing on top), all the way down one side of the rink. Decided to start at the road, and work back along that side. Cranked up the MXT, got my headphones on, slid the bullseye into my back pocket and BINGO, a good quarter signal showin 6" deep!! But it was acting weird, bounced up to 85, vdi for 50 cent, then back to a quarter, kept doin it so I dug. shoulda been 83 or 84 for a quarter. Dug down 6", easy diggin in the sand. This is what I saw in the bottom of the hole !! My first thought was "that's not a quarter" Brushed the damp sand off it, to find my oldest coin an 1837 Bank of Montreal Half Penny !!!!! Ya know, the rest of the day went kinda slow, but that find made up for it, and right off the bat too !! 07-12-08 coins + 1837 Bank of Montreal Halfpenny.JPG

Nice coin! You did a great job of sizing up the location and deciding on the best place to start.
