Default Schoolyard search and a few thoughts

Got out to the old elemetary school over the weekend and netted 27 coins and some other goodies you can read about in my new blog.

Also decided to start wearing my sport hydrator when I search. It adds a few pounds, but it's a backpack type and I really would love the extra water I would get using it as opposed to trying and stretch 1 bottled water for my search.

Finally, discovered that after doing my normal cleaning of coins (dunk 1 at a time in a shot glass of TarnX for a minute or so, rinse, then into the tumbler) that you can put all coins into a tumbler full of aquarium gravel and water as long as you don't add any soap solution. It was the soap solution that was carrying the copper color and depositing it on my other coins. Since I soaked them in TarnX, the agitation of the gravel is enough to scrub the coins up good and not carry over any coloring to my nickels, dimes and quarters.

Ive been cleaning my reusable pennies in a solution of 1 cup vinigar with 1 teaspoon salt. put a handful of pennies in the cup and stir with a spoon. Then rinse with water. They come out great. DO NOT USE ON PENNIES YOU WANT TO KEEP. I just do this to clean them up for reuse . G-girl

Good idea on the hydrator! I guess this is similar to a camel back? Water is very important in this heat.

Good thoughts on cleaning also, Beale.

In fact, it is by Camelback ; found it in the sporting goods store ; has the removable bladder ("for easy cleaning") ; works great, especially when you put a tray of ice cubes in before the water ; I've used it for other outdoor activities like biking and kayaking and things like that, but never gave it a second thought for when I was MD'ing until this weekend.

And the cleaning discovery was by accident since I had already copper-colored some dimes and quarters once and decided to try it without the soap since the soap looked coppery in color when I would do the rinse. I definitely like the time-saving of doing all the coins at once instead of separate loads .... kind of like the way I do my clothes washing

And yes, I am a bachelor, but not for long
