Can anyone tell me what this coin is?

I found this coin - or token- tonight. It is in pretty rough shape but I can definately tell it is dated 1863 and it kinda looks like a washington head on the one side and the back side has a star with a shield of some sort in the middle. Both sides look like they have wreaths around the outside. It is the same size as a penny and made out of copper. I have never found one like it so I'm not sure what it is - sorry the pics are so bad - but like I said it is in pretty rough shape.
Anybody got any ideas?

For being year 1863 it probably is an Civil War token.
I'm sure Rick will see this post, he may know.

Interesting coin -token, the star is the same as on the Longacre trimes, but the bust does not belong with that coin, i do not find it in any of my reference books, I have copied your pics ,I will play with them a bit and do a little research and see what I can find, Best guess right now is that it one of the many privately made tokens that were commonly used during that time.

Im still looking for this token,, post up the better cleaned pics when you get a chance,, can you make out any markings ?

I have found a series of washington store card tokens ,, that have a similar bust on the obverse but have not found the particular reverse yet, Im leaning toward it being one of these,, they were mostly a New York Item ,, although there are a few from ,philadelphia, and boston that also have the washington bust on the obverse, but not exactly as yours .
