Further Misadventures from the Land of the Bluenos

From the land of the Bluensoe...well finally had a whole day to myself.....well at least 10 hours of it so I loaded up and headed to one of my favourite lakes for a swish. Keep score on the way there and it ended up Cars 4 and squirrels and porcupines 0. Mind you the road there is one of the worst in the province where the pot holes have graduated to tank traps. So much for the front end ailment.

Decked out in full bug gear over the chest waders I began to dig every target with 80% of these being pull tabs and bottle caps in along the shallow water where the pebbles meet the sand. Wasn't long before the natural resource folks showed up in their gatormobile and would you believe it...they took my brand new can of Deep Woods Off that I had placed by a picnic table and drove away. So out of the water I galloped and I hunted them down in Goquickski and returned to the solitude of the water with the only company being the blackflies and a loon.

Snap! Son of a sea horse my sieve pole broke right at the sieve so out of the water and a 30 minute -drive to Middle Musquodoboit for a new pole. Must say that the lady at the Coop Store was a jewel and in no time my tool was repaired and I was heading back to the lake with John Lee Hooker singing the blues.

Once in the water again, my first recovery was a dog collar with two little doggie things on it followed by a ton of beaver tails and bottle caps. The swarm got to me so I cut the dig short and headed to the ballfield to see if I could find the diamond ring to no avail. End result was 27 coins at $3.15...not a stellar day by any stretch but a day out to recharge my batteries!

Blew that call! First inning with a man on first and third with one out I was watching the runner at third as he had a good jump to see if he tagged up. Well in the split second I looked back to right field and saw the ball on the grass and I signaled safe....da! Another umpire in the stands that I was talking to between innings told me what happened was that the fielder dropped it on the transfer. Error to the ump. Sure it won't be the last before the year is over. Got out with my life so all is well. 6 games to do on Saturday...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Any day you get out digging is a good one.... I look at it like fishing: It's not really what you find, but just being there enjoying yourself. Although, good finds do help!
And here, all I ever find is crap anyways. Bah. Humbug.
I'm curious what detector you use, and how you keep it from getting thoroughly soaked.
And do you use some sort of a scoop to dig stuff off the bottom?
Read about some of the treasures near Louisbourg. Makes me want to go back to the East coast to visit...
But then, all I'd find is even older worthless stuff!

From the land of the Bluenose...as for machines use a Seahunter Mk2 for the water and a Freedom # cdc that garrett upgraded to a Freedom 3 plus for the land. Louisburg by the way is off limits although we get a hunt in on the Scattery Islands. Not uncommon to find lots of 1800 to 1840 coins but a lot are rather toasty sir! Happy hunting.
