Nice find

I went detecting today to a state park and managed to find something "good". I started out detecting around an old picnic area, and I soon got troubled because I was only finding newer coins. My uncle and brother were finding the same. So, after a short break, we started up again in the same vicinity. We still had "hope" in our hearts. After pulling out more newer "stuff", I became fed up, so I told my partners who were in the same area that I was heading to the car. While walking towards my car I got a clear signal at a V.D.I. of 48. I thought, "Wow, another memorial cent", LOL. And, would I be fooled. It was an Indian head cent. The year was 1887. That find made my day! I guess the clads helped me some. I ended up with $1.51. Oh, lol, my partners did not find anything good.

You just never know when one of these little beauties will show up. I have detected sites that just smelled of old coins, only to find nothing but newer coinage. Go figure! Then on the flip side, I have been to places that you would expect to find nothing but new, and "BAM" you come up with some good old finds. I guess this is where doing some in depth research will help pay off.
